Why We Need a Coastal Marine Strategy and Law – And Why Now
With West Coast Environmental Law

Week of May 5 – more info to come!

B.C.’s coastlines and communities are facing growing challenges—and local leaders are stepping up. With the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities’ recent resolution supporting the legislation of the B.C. Coastal Marine Strategy, the call for strengthening the strategy is gaining momentum ahead of the Union of BC Municipalities convention this fall. Join this webinar the week of May 5 (date coming soon!) presented by West Coast Environmental Law and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – BC to hear directly from municipal councillors about why legislating the Coastal Marine Strategy is essential for the health, resilience, and future of their communities. Come with your questions—there will be time for an open Q&A to dive deeper into this important topic.

The Power Game
Building Power Literacy & Competency for Better Outcomes
With Andrea Reimer | Founder, Principal and Chief Strategist | Tawâw Strategies

May 15 + 22 | 9am – 12pm PST | Via zoom

How many times have you seen great ideas take much longer to come to fruition than they needed to, or even fail all together, because people or politics got in the way? It doesn’t have to be that way! Power literacy and competency are skills like any other that can be learned and perfected.

The Power Game is a role-playing game that supports participants to learn about power through a simulation of a local government policy-making exercise. Each participant is given a role with a specific objective. The culmination of the game is a City Council meeting where we will find out who was effective at using power to achieve their objective. Through the debrief participants will integrate the learning into ongoing organizing and advocacy.

PLEASE NOTE: The Power Game takes place over 2 x 3-hour sessions. Participation in both sessions is mandatory. Spots are limited, so register now to secure a place!
