Our Common Future

February 21, 2011

The Brundtland Commission and UN World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) wrote the report Our Common Future in 1987 to emphasize the importance of sustainable development for social, economic, and environmental agendas. The report defines sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs", and advocates it as a means to blend the fulfilment of human needs with environmental protection.
